With another speedy departure out of port, we decided to "run" to enjoy some of the ship amenities like a stroll around the deck and lunch outside. This trip was so much running that I was impressed I actually could do all the tours. This cruise should definitely come with a "warning"-non stop tours, early rising, running, on uneven surfaces in the heat, with little time to think about anything except where the next clean toilet was!

We arrived to the cloudy rainy skies of Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is between Albania and Split. The city is enclosed by stone walls (built between 13th and 16th c) which are about 81 feet high. The city was founded 1300 years ago by refugees from Greece and it was one of the most important cities on the Adriatic after Venice. Napoleon invaded it in 1806 and it was occupied by German and Italian in WWII. There are only 1,000 people who live in the city today. We visited the Franciscan Monastery which has the 3rd oldest pharmacy in Europe (1391), Onofrio Fountain (1438 they told us you could drink the water, but we did NOT), St Blaise's Church, and the 2nd oldest synagogue in Europe (teeny tiny).

Outside the oldest pharmacy, I tried to get some children's tylenol, but most of the pharmacies have all sorts of herbal remedies and little of our over the counter medicine.

Outside the 2nd oldest synagogue, very small...it had lists of Dubrovnik residents lost in concentration camps and other memorabilia, plus some items in Hebrew which Alex read for us!
